Т.02. Tour to the Tolbachick volcano

    According to the tour programme, the group gathers at the airport in Elizovo on the 1st day of the tour. A representative of the company meets the group. The route of the tour starts at the coast and runs across Kamchatka from South to North, so it will take you from one climatic zone to another. It is a Central Kamchatka where the greatest volcanoes of Eurasia are situated. A magnificent view of Kluchevskoy Group of gigantesque volcanoes includes the highest and the best known Kluchevskoy volcano - 4750 m! You will see and ascend the southernmost one of the group - Plosky Tolbachik (3085 m). The grandiose funnel-like crater leaves behind all others in Kamchatka. Trekking round eruption sites of Tolbachik - the North Break and the South break. This is where volcanologists of Kamchatka are constantly working. The taiga of Kamchatka consists of coniferous and foliaceous species. The mysterious village of Esso, a center of life and traditions of aboriginal people of Kamchatka. Healing waters of Malky thermal springs which are able to refresh you after a long way. Fishing on the Bystraya river, one of the most remarkable rivers of Kamchatka. You will take a helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers, which is situated in a river canyon with amazing nature. During the helicopter flight you will watch the beauty of volcanoes, mountain ranges, vast of taiga, rivers and lakes. The tour will leave a lot of imperishable impressions.


  • Day 1: Arrival day.
    Arrival in Kamchatka. Transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Hotel accommodation (DBL, B&B). Acclimatization.
  • Day 2: Transfer to Kozyrevsk village (600 km).
    At 9:00 after breakfast start driving to the Central Kamchatka. Stops on the way. Lunch at 1 p.m. on the bank of Kamchatka river. Continue the trip. Ferry across Kamchatka river. Arrival in Kozyrevsk village by 8 p.m. Camping near the village. Supper.
  • Day 3: Transfer to Plosky ('Flat') Tolbachik volcano.
    Breakfast. Start driving at 10 a.m. The road runs though larch taiga and crosses many mountain rivers. Lunch on the way. Camping at the foot of Tolbachik volcano at Vodopadny ('Waterfall') stream, 900 meter's elevation. Rest. Supper. Overnight in tents.
  • Day 4: Ascent of Plosky Tolbachik volcano (3085 m).
    The hardest day of the program. Breakfast. The ascent starts at 7 a.m. Lunch on the way(snack). Look over the 1941's eruption site. The way of the ascent goes along slag fields and frozen lava streams. There is a huge crater on top of the volcano - 1,8 km wide and over 500 m deep. Back in camp by 9 p.m. Celebration supper for the 'mountaineers'. Overnight in tents.
  • Day 5: Trip to the North and South Outbreaks.
    Breakfast. Drive to the North Outbreak area. Look over the cones of the Great Crack Eruption of 1975-76. Drive to the Dead Forest, South Outbreak area. Lunch on the way. Walk to the South Outbreak Cones. Back in camp by 8 p.m. Supper. Overnight in tents.
  • Day 6: Drive to Esso village.
    Start at 9 a.m. Back the same way to Kozyrevsk, ferry across Kamchatka river. Lunch on the bank of Bystraya of Esso river. Drive to Esso village. Private hotel accommodation by 6 p.m. 2 to 4 persons in a room. Thermal water pool. Supper.
  • Day 7: Drive to Bystraya (Malkinskaya) river.
    Breakfast in hotel. Visit to the Esso Ethnography Museum. Lunch. Set off at 1 p.m. 6 hours' drive. Stops on the way. Camping at Bystraya river bank. Malkinskiye thermal springs. Supper. Overnight in tents.
  • Day 8: Beginning of rafting on Bystraya river.
    Breakfast. Preparation for rafting. Start rafting (rafts and catamarans). On the way: fishing and lunch. Rafting till 6 p.m. Camping. Supper. Overnight in tents.
  • Day 9: End of rafting.
    Breakfast. Final part of rafting (15 km, 3 hours). End of rafting at Malka village. Lunch. Bathing in hot springs. Drive to Paratunka (250 km, 4 hours). Hotel accommodation, DBL, B&B. Thermal pool. Dinner.
  • Day 10: Helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers and caldera of Uzon volcano.
    Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to helicopter airport . 6-hour helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers and caldera of the volcano Uzon: an hour and a half in the air, on the way - Maly Semyachik volcano with an acid lake in the crater, Karymsky volcano, landing in the Valley, 2-hour walking excursion round the Valley. Flight to the caldera. 1-hour excursion. Flight to Zhupanova river, tourist camp “Dzendzur”. Lunch. Flight to Yelizovo. Transfer to the hotel. If the weather does not permit to make a helicopter flight this day, the excursion will be postponed to the next day.
  • Day 11: A backup day:
    This day is reserved in case of bad weather on previous days. Additional excursions: around Petropavlovs-Kamchatsky, historical center of the town, observation ground, Area Study Museum, fish market, shopping for souvenirs. Back to hotel.
  • Day 12: Departure day.
    Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

    Due to the weather conditions the changes in route, time and date of the beginning of the tour are possible.


Cost of the tour for 1 person - 48 000 rubles.

Cost includes: transportation, breakfasts at the hotels, meals on the route (three meals a day, fresh cooked), guides, cook, equipment for camping and field kitchen, rafting equipment, tents, hotel accommodation in Petropavlovsk and in the rezort zone Paratunka, excursions (except for the helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers).

Not included: lunch and dinner while in hotel in Petropavlovsk (Paratunka). Helicopter excursion to the valley of Geysers and caldera of the volcano Uzon is paid for separately (34 000 rubles per person)


  • Staff: during the active part of the tour: 2 guides, cook; during rafting: 1 guide on each vessel; in town: 1 guide; helicopter excursion – 1 guide.
  • Accommodation:
    in Petropavlovsk: hotel, DBL, TV, washroom on the floor.
    in Paratunka: hotel, DBL, washroom for two rooms, thermal pool.
    out of town: tents (2-3 persons each).
  • Meals:
    out of town: three meals a day, fresh, cooked on fire.
    at hotels (Petropavlovsk or Paratunka): only breakfast. Lunch and supper to be paid for separately.

  • Transport during the tour:
    meeting and seeing of at the airport – for a group of tourists - bus, 20-30 seats
    on the route to the volcanoes: truck 6 WD, 15 seats
    excursions round the town: minibus, 12-20 seats
  • Weight of your backpack: you will only need your backpack during ascents and rafting. We recommend to have a backpack with a capacity of about 70 liters. For ascent you need to have on you only a warm coat and a flask of water, and the rest of the things are left in the base camp.
  • Weather: air temperature: day-time - +12+25°C, night-time - +5+15°C. During the ascent it may drop down to 0°C. Wind and rain are possible as well.
  • Items recommended to have:a backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, runners, , boots (or rubber boots with firm soles) , windproof clothes , training suit, sweater, pants, coat with a hood, raincoat , spare socks, hat or cap, gloves, swimming items, personal hygienic items and first aid kit, matches or lighter, flashlight, sunglasses, mosquito repellent, sunscreen cream, extra little backpack or a bag (up to 30 liters capacity). All other items - just up to you.
